New Shape of Water

Sally Hawkins in The Shape of Water (2017)

The Shape of Water Guillermo Del Toro delivers another dark fantasy that, though surreal, grounds itself in real characters and emotions.  A fairytale for adults—a lovely, whimsical twist on the old “creature from the lagoon” brought to life by a stellar cast.  Octavia Spencer shines in a supporting role.  The Shape of Water Trailer

New Raw Tonya

Margot Robbie in I, Tonya (2017)

I, Tonya An insightful, refreshingly gritty take on U.S. figure skater Tonya Harding.  The script is sharp and funny, and the interview-style anecdotes are compelling.  Margot Robbie, in perhaps her best performance yet, gives a remarkably raw portrait of Tonya.  Allison Janney as Tonya’s mother gives the film its overcast mood.  I, Tonya Trailer
